533528 558566794156686 524861644 nThe Polish Communication Association (PCA) was created during the General Meeting of Founders on 22 April, 2007 in Wrocław.

The idea of creating the Association appeared as a result of the discussion at the conference summarizing 50 years of research on communication and media in Poland (Wroclaw, March 2006), where representatives of several Polish universities dicussed its Statue.

The Statue determines main activities and goals of the Polish Communication Association. According to that document PCA ought to lead to the integration of the diversified research environment and communications practices by organizing the realm of studies on communication and media in Poland, raising their rank and level, as well as the cooperation with similar associations abroad. One of the priority goals is to undertake efforts to separate research on media and communication as an independent scientific discipline in Poland.

The statute goals shall be accomplished through:

– The work of the 22 Research Sections (meetings, conferences, research projects),
– PCA Congresses organized every two years (The I PCA Congress entitled “Creating the Communication: Content, Control, Critique” took place September 15-17, 2008 in Wrocław),
– Publications activities: “Central European Journal of Communication” – the official Journal of Polish Communication Association, publications of specialseries together with post-conference volumes.

Polish Communication Association cooperates with many international media and communication associations. PCA belongs to the International Confederation of Communication Associations. Polish Communication Association is also the 15th member of the International Communication Association (ICA).
