The Media and Democracy Karol Jakubowicz Award was established in 2018 by Małgorzata Semil-Jakubowicz and since the very beginning the Polish Communication Association has been an institutional partner of the Award. It is granted to outstanding contributions in the areas of scientific interests of Karol Jakubowicz. The goal of the Award is to support scholars who contribute to studies on democracy, human rights, media ethics, media policy and public service media.

Since 2021 the Award is organized in collaboration with the Journalism Education Foundation (Polish: Fundacja Szkolnictwo Dziennikarskie).
